Overview
Tayo Climate partners was engaged as a blue carbon technical expert under Socodevi’s Natur’ELLES programme – a Global Affairs Canada (GAC)-supported initiative centered around livelihood enhancement for vulnerable populations in Senegal’s Sine-Saloum Delta and Casamance regions. The program focuses specifically on women whose economic survival depends on mangrove environments, working to protect biodiversity while fostering more equitable resource governance and expanding conservation-related advantages.

Tayo’s role in the Natur’ELLES initiative was to assess the potential to use voluntary market carbon finance as a livelihood enhancement tool under a Payment for Ecosystem Services model. Tayo assessed landscape-level carbon stock changes in the Sine-Saloum Delta and Casamance regions, and worked alongside the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) to report on the potential benefits of voluntary market financing.

In addition, Tayo spearheaded a Blue Carbon Summit, in cooperation with colleagues at Blue Ventures, to bring together local policymakers, community stakeholders, civil society organizations, to promote innovative blue carbon mechanisms as levers for conservation, climate resilience, and the sustainable development of mangrove ecosystems.
